History

Matthew Strader was a storyteller before he knew what career he wanted to pursue. The boy who carried a notebook in his pocket to write down any idea that came to his head, his future would involve writing. After travelling Europe instead of going straight to post-secondary, he then attended Dalhousie University in Halifax and completed a Bachelor of Arts in History. But outside of suggestions he get into teaching history, the BA wasn’t laying clear career paths at his feet. And so he returned to education, at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, and completed a Journalism degree in just two years.

He was hired as the sports editor of Kamloops This Week right out of school, and was then transferred to a news desk in Burnaby before life decisions involving his spouse took him to Ontario. In Caledon, Ontario, he would find his place for a decade writing for Metroland Media/Torstar covering community news, politics, sports, and more. His opportunities at Torstar would see him become an award-winning columnist, investigative reporter and even dip his toes into some international travel for the Wheels section.

His time within community reporting taught him how difficult it is for small business owners to manage quality communications. Whether they don’t have the acquired skills or simply the time, constructing and managing websites and social media, editing writing and approaching media outlets just isn’t something a small business owner needs to be burdened with. But neither is the typical cost.

Enter StraderEdge Media. The communication professional a small business can afford.
